OUR CLUB’S MISSION
The purpose of the Lake Wales Breakfast Rotary Club
is to be a service club that focuses
on caring for the youth of our community while
participating in Rotary’s global efforts.
Lake Wales Breakfast Rotary's Boys' Camp
Boys’ Camp and Girls’ Camp are the Lake Wales Breakfast Rotary Club's main community service projects. The Boys’ Camp for 10-12 year olds has been conducted annually since 1983. The camp is completely free to the children chosen as very deserving students by their teachers, counselors, and principals from the five local elementary schools.
Can you imagine a camp with 64 fourth and fifth grade boys, plus counselors, Rotarians, and volunteers, having “the time of their life” at a weekend camp at Circle F Youth Camp? If so, this is what our annual Boys’ Camp is all about. Boys may not even realize that we are teaching them lifelong skills throughout the weekend with the different team building activities and games that are provided. Counselors and Rotarians encourage the boys to:
- respect their environment,
- encourage creative solutions to problems,
- exercise,
- increase their self-esteem and confidence,
- encourage their love of adventure and trying something new,
- promote social skills and meet new friends,
- and unplug from technology and tv while reconnecting with nature.
Many of the boys have not camped before. Playing board games, riding horses, playing different outside games on teams, canoeing, swimming, campfire and s’mores are new experiences and activities for them. Counselors at Boys’ Camp are usually young college men from Warner University who are chosen because they are good examples for their behavior and being team players, their goal setting, cooperative attitude, and athletic skills.
Our camp is funded by corporate sponsorships, fundraising efforts, and grant writing. It’s a fabulous experience for boys, counselors, Rotarians and volunteers!
